The Guru DFU is more than just a fit bike.
The Dynamic Fit Unit lets you experience your custom bike before it is built.
You'll become immersed in the interative digital experience that puts you as the center of the custom fit equation. The Guru DFU allows you to explore and save multiple positions and optimize for power output, and removes the leap of faith traditionally required when purchasing a custom bike.
After two years of testing and engineering, GURU Cycles Inc. has finalized the development of the first computerized robotic assisted bicycle fitting system. With our patented drivetrain, motors, actuators and proprietary software; Guru has revolutionized the fit process by drastically increasing efficiency and by creating an interactive experience for the cyclist.
The DFU™, manipulates the rider's position while he or she is pedaling. The software, based on the client's body morphology, suggests a starting position for the fitter in using XY coordinates. The Guru trained fitter then adjusts the fit down to the millimetre in order to achieve a perfect fit, which is optimized for power, cadence, position and most of all, comfort.
At no point does the instructor or fitter ever have to ask the rider to disembark from the unit to change positions of handlebars, pedals or seat position. The actuators take care of all of these actions automatically.
The following points sum up the technical and cutting edge advantages of The DFU™:
- Our proprietary software and the custom GUI (graphic user interface), allow micro-adjustments (by the millimetre) to the rider's XY position, which are displayed on screen for both the rider and fitter to see.
- Allows the fitter to optimize the rider's position in real time while monitoring power output (watts), heartrate, and spin analysis ("Computrainer" required for monitoring wattage, heartrate and spin).
- Utilizes a quick change system for handlebar and saddle changes allowing you to explore different ergonomic options.
- The DFU™can accommodate riders from 1.4m (4'7") to 2.10m (6'11")tall.
- Multiple fits for a single individual can be captured, saved, and revisited at any time and are displayed at the base of your screen. A fitter can then quickly toggle between stored fit positions simply by selecting them. The actuators will then automatically move the rider back to that position.
- Allows the instructor/fitter to gather more fit data in less time than conventional static fit bikes.
In 1990, Jon Tallerico began learning how to understand problems that may exist with a cyclist's riding position.
From many years of working with some of the great bicycle mechanics, bicycle builders, designers, and industry professionals, Jon learned the "ins and outs" of bicycle adjustments.
Adjustment of a cyclist’s riding position is by no means a process that has been reinvented during the past 40 years.
A bike fitting today, is simply the application of a thorough understanding of pedal, and saddle-to-handlebar ratios, applied to a cyclist’s unique body geometry. For the most part, these are principals that have not changed from the approach developed by Italian and French Cycling Coaches, and Master Bicycle Builders, of the late 1960s.
By watching you ride your bike, both on a wind trainer and outside, we will be able to access your riding form and your need for any adjustments. Then, with some careful measurements and calculations, we can make the proper adjustments to your cycling position.
While our approach is both time consuming and very involved, you will leave our shop feeling confident that progress has been made, and that it was time well spent. Plus, you will receive documentation of your exact cycling-related body and bicycle measurements for future reference.
Our aim, with our bicycle "fitting" process, is to increase your cycling performance, maximize your comfort and help prevent injury. We can even use it to help you get back on your bike after an injury, by compensating for your temporary physical constraints.
The majority of our fitting services require approximately two hours. However, if we need to change parts in order to reach the desired positioning, more time will be needed which may require a second appointment.
Don Blount's bike fitting experience.
After his crash and broken bones earlier this summer, Don Blount decided it was time to update his bike fit.
Being comfortable on the bike is important to being able to spend time on the bike. That is one of the reasons I went in recently for another bike fit. My last real fit by a certified fitter was about 18 months ago.
This time I went in to see Jon Tallerico, owner of The Bicycle Café (lodibicyclecafe.com), an eight-month old local high-end bike shop that specializes in bike, equipment, service and coffee. The shop has a few Orbea bikes on display, Sidi shoes and the ceiling is decorated with racing jerseys. I have not tried the coffee yet but I am told that it is good.
In addition to my bike, Jon told me to bring cycling shorts and a helmet. Instead of packing my car, I rode 11 miles from my home to the shop so I was warmed up when I arrived.
As Jon put my bike on the wind trainer he explained that bike geometry is built around cyclists with ... Click here to read the rest of Don Blount's bike fitting experience.
