HED Wheels

At Lodi Bicycle Café, we like HED wheels, and our customers who have a pair love them. HED Wheels are hand-made in Shoreview, Minnesota and they are solid, well made wheels. When ordering HED wheels, always allow for a 10-day build time in addition to your shipping time.

HED offers a Stallion Build for riders 191 to 230 pounds. Please indicate if you want your wheelset in a Stallion Build

Most models can be built with a Power Tap. Please indicate that you want a Power Tap build when ordering a wheelset.

Jet Disc

HED Jet Disc - $ Call

With HED's new construction technology, the Disc Jet is a hybrid wheel, built with spokes for strength and durability. When the substrate wheel is completed, trued, and stress relieved, disc sides are bonded to the hub rim and spokes. With a two part building process, the disc sides can be made lighter and shaped more readily, without losing any strength.

The new disc incorporates a toroidal bulge near the rim and a radius on the large transition leading from the hub to the bulge. These shapes make the Disc Jet not only faster than the Standard disc, they make it faster than any other disc.

The Jet can also be built for riders 191-230 lbs. and is available in tubular and clincher models.

The Flamme Rouge model is built with scandium alloy rims and lighter spokes; the steel ratchet ring is replaced with titanium, and a titanium skewer is supplied with the wheel. Ultralight high modulus disc sides bring the weight even lower. The Flamme Rouge is available as a clincher or tubular.

Stinger Disc

HED Stinger Disc - $ Call

The Stinger rim substrate makes the disc even lighter and stiffer. Stinger tire to rim interface is more aerodynamic than the Jet version, so the Disc Stinger is even faster.

Stinger wheels are designed for 23mm tires. Aerodynamically this is the optimum width. The Hed C2 tire well is most impact resistant with 23mm or larger tires. We do not recommend narrower tires, using a tire less than 23mm will void the warranty. Riders 180 - 210 lbs should run 24mm or larger tires.

The Flamme Rouge model is built with specially laid up high modulus aero sides; the hub contains a lightweight titanium ratchet ring; and the wheel is supplied with a HED Titanium skewer.

H3

H3 Tubular - Front $795 / Rear $895
H3 Clincher - Front $745 / Rear $845

HED H3 wheels offer full on aero performance in any conditions. The key to the wide range of performance is the combination of a 55mm deep rim section, the airfoil section spokes and the smooth transitions between the two. The 55mm deep rim keeps drag low at shallow yaw angles. When the yaw angle goes past 15° the aero spokes work to keep the wheel from stalling, and drag stays flat. The optimum wind angle for the H3 is an amazing 17.5°. H3 clinchers are made with a light and durable alloy rim cap. Tubulars are offered in either alloy rim cap or all carbon.

The H3 is available in both 700c and 650c sizes.

H3D

HED H3D - $ Call

The H3D is built by applying HED's Jet 9 aero rim section to the standard H3. When used as a front wheel, the H3D is faster than the H3 out to 10 degrees of wind yaw angle. Generally this means that 25mph and faster riders will benefit from the H3D because the yaw angles are generally low at these speeds. When used as a rear wheel, the H3D has been proven to be faster than any other rear wheel besides a disc. This makes the rear H3D the ideal choice for events where disc wheels are not allowed or if you prefer the ride and lighter feel of non-disc wheels. It seems that the blades of the H3 actually help to correct yaw angle winds in the rear of the bike and thus produce results that are better than data on a wheel alone.

The H3D is available as a Tubular and as a Clincher.

Jet 4

HED Jet 4 - $ Call

The Jet 4 is ideal for riders who want aerodynamic wheels but do not want to take out a second mortgage, riders who are weight-conscious but do not want full carbon rims, and riders who live where there are enough steep hills that weight matters.

The Jet 4 is available as a Clincher only, but can be built for riders 191 - 230 lbs.

The Flamme Rouge model features a hub with a lightweight titanium ratchet ring and a titanium skewer.

Jet 6

HED Jet 6 - $ Call

The new 60mm aero section makes the Jet 6 better than ever. They're more aero, roll better, corner better, and are lighter. Even in crosswinds, the Jet 6 wheels are fast; it takes a strong crosswind to stall them out. They're plenty light for climbing. In modeling, HED found that Jet 6 that were 300g heavier were still aero enough to keep climbing speeds high, until the grade reached 7.5%.

The Flamme Rouge model features a hub with a lightweight titanium ratchet ring and a titanium skewer.

Jet 9

HED Jet 9 - $ Call

The new Jet 9 is more aero, has lower rolling resistance, corners and handles better, and is more comfortable. All increases speed, and all are a result of HED's C2 rim technology. Because of exacting CAD design and the resulting extrusion dies that can be machined from the instructions in the CAD file, HED can make a 23mm wide rim that weighs no more than 19mm rims. The additional width actually makes the C2 rim stiffer laterally than a 19mm version. Since Jets are made for 23mm tires, Jets' have lower rolling resistance, have a larger contact surface in cornering, and require less psi to support the same load as a 19mm tire.

The Jet 9 is a Clincher only.

The Flamme Rouge model model features a hub with a lightweight titanium ratchet ring and a titanium skewer. The Flamme Rouge is available in Tubular only.

Stinger 4

HED Stinger 4 - $ Call

HED applied their proprietary design formula to the new stinger 4, and the result is a superb road wheel. Excluding HED's Stinger 6 wheels, there is not a faster wheel less than 80mm deep. Stinger wheels are designed for 23mm tires. Aerodynamically, this is the optimum width because the wheels are most impact resistant with 23mm or larger tires, beside, using a tire less than 23mm will void the warranty. The Stinger 4 are available as Tubulars only.

Riders 180 - 210 lbs should run 24mm or larger tires.

The Flamme Rouge model features titanium skewers, a Ti ratchet ring, and carbon hub shells to save weight.

Stinger 6

HED Stinger 6 - $ Call

At 15° wind angle the new Stinger has 100g less drag than the '08 model. To make a faster wheel, HED addressed tire efficiency, cornering speed, handling, strength and stiffness, and even comfort. The C2 rim well secures the tire in a wider and slightly deeper "cradle". The increased support reduces sidewall flexion, which, in turn, vastly increases cornering stability and general handling. It also improves tire efficiency. One hard corner at speed effectively shows how much the C2 decreases tire wash under heavy loading.

The Stinger 6 is available as a Tubular only.

The Flamme Rouge model features titanium skewers, a Ti ratchet ring, and carbon hub shells to save weight.

Stinger 9

HED Stinger 9 - $ Call

After an extensive prototyping and wind tunnel testing HED engineered a new Stinger 9 rim shape that not only lowers drag at all angles but also gives the rim a bigger window of aerodynamic effectiveness. As with the Stinger 6, HED again proved that shape is actually more important than depth; the Stinger 9 not only outperforms every spoked wheel shallower than 90mm, but it also outperforms all the wheels that deeper than 90mm. HED also increased lateral stiffness, cornering performance, and impact durability without affecting the impressively comfortable ride quality.

The Stinger 9 is available as a Tubular.

The Flamme Rouge model uses three different types of carbon and a unique layup schedule that makes the rim 15% stiffer laterally and 10% more impact resistant. It also has titanium skewers, a Ti ratchet ring, and carbon hub shells to save weight.

Scorpio Flamme Rouge

HED Scorpio Flamme Rouge
- $ Call

The Scorpio is an all around, do anything wheelset that also happened to be pretty exceptional at climbing. HED wanted to develop a rim shape that would be shallow enough to keep the weight low, just deep enough to have some good aerodynamic performance, and a shape optimized for lateral stiffness so that a minimum amount of carbon is needed.

The Scorpio is available in a Tubular only, and, since it is a Flamme Rouge model, features the weight savings of titanium skewers and ratchet ring. It can be built for riders 191 - 230 lbs.

Ardennes

HED Ardennes - $1050

HED began designing their alloy clinchers by focusing on the rim, and the result is the Hed C2 rim. By obsessing over design, and with the modern miracle of CAD, the C2 rim is 23mm wide, and only 430g. The Ardennes can be built for riders 191 - 230 lbs.

The Flamme Rouge model has titanium skewers, a Ti ratchet ring, and carbon hub shells to save weight.

Bastogne

HED Bastogne - $800

The Bastogne is a stouter version of the Ardennes. It is built of the same alloy and spokes as the Ardennes. The Bastogne has the Ardennes performance at a slightly higher weight but lower cost.

The Bastogne can be built for riders 191 - 230 lbs.

Kermesse

HED Kermesse - $ Call

The Kermesse are extremely durable, efficient, and stiff due to a higher spoke count (24 front, 28 rear) and larger bearings in the front hub. It is the perfect choice for cyclocross or heavier riders.

Flanders

HED Flanders - $ Call

The Flanders combines HED's C2 23mm wide rim with install it and forget it durability. With a very competitive weight and amazing ride, the Flanders outperforms the flagship wheel offerings from other companies.
